Georgetown University Georgetown University is one of the top target schools for U.S. investment banking recruiting. Our methodology ranks Georgetown #2 overall and #7 based on total hires, outranking every school aside from UPenn. Georgetown University has an impressive presence across Wall Street's top investment banks and has a particularly strong concentration at bulge brackets. Georgetown is home to the McDonough School of Business, which is a highly-ranked business school with a top-tier MBA and undergraduate program. While Georgetown is not technically an Ivy League, Georgetown is often regarded as a Hidden Ivy due to the school's smaller class sizes, academic rigor, and critical-thinking development opportunities. Georgetown University is ranked #7 for total hires into the top U.S. investment banks and has an incredible Undergrad Placement % of 2.18%, falling short of only Harvard and UPenn. Georgetown mostly places into the Bulge Bracket banks with a weaker percentage than most in the Elite Boutiques. Georgetown places the most investment banking hires into Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley. Georgetown has amazing recruiting statistics, rivaling that of Harvard and UPenn, but they do face some disadvantages such as their weaker presence in leading private equity firms. - New York University (NYU) Investment Banking Placement (Using Data)
If you're interested in breaking into finance, check out our Private Equity Course and Investment Banking Course, which help thousands of candidates land top jobs every year. New York University New York University is one of the best schools in the world for investment banking recruiting. NYU's business program, Stern, places dozens of people into the top investment banks every year. NYU ranks #2 by number of U.S. investment banking analysts placed, topped only by UPenn. NYU's student body has a strong focus on investment banking and its proximity to New York gives it incredible access to top firms. Overall, NYU ranks #5 on our investment banking target school list. Stern is recognized globally for its top-tier undergraduate and MBA business programs. NYU has a strong global presence with satellite locations in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai. NYU is an incredibly diverse school with over 20% of the student body coming from international sources. NYU ranks #2 by total number of hires but ranks #5 in our weighted ranking, which factors in NYU's large school size. However, one could certainly argue that the vast majority of placements come from Stern and our weighted ranking unfairly discredits NYU. NYU places the most investment banking hires into Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan, which contributes to the school's respectable Elite Firm Hires % of 46%. We note that NYU's placement into private equity is significantly worse than one might expect given its heavy numbers into investment banking. Princeton's undergraduate program is recognized as one of the most exclusive in the country. Princeton ranks #11 overall in our ranking of investment banking target schools and has one of the best Undergrad Placement %'s in the country. Investment banks and all of Wall Street recognize Princeton as a top school, but its relatively small school size prevents it from having a strong presence at every firm. Princeton is also home to the Bendheim Center for Finance which specializes in quantitative finance. Princeton is one of the few schools that sends people directly into hedge funds. Princeton University is ranked #18 for total hires into the top U.S. investment banks and has an astounding Undergrad Placement % of 1.88%, ranking it #4 on the list behind the likes of UPenn, Harvard, and Georgetown. Princeton is particularly well represented at the bulge brackets, sending the most investment banking hires to Credit Suisse (23%), Goldman Sachs (17%), and J.P. Morgan (14%). Princeton has relatively low exposure to elite boutiques, sending only 9% of hires there. We note that Princeton's placement numbers are even more impressive when you consider that many students do not focus on finance placement. University of Michigan University of Michigan is one of the top U.S. schools for investment banking placement. Michigan has a strong presence at the best investment banks and sends large numbers of students to the top firms every year. Michigan is also well regarded for its great athletics and student life. Michigan ranks #3 by number of U.S. investment banking analysts placed, topped only by UPenn and NYU. Overall, Michigan ranks #8 on our investment banking target school list, as it is held back by relatively worse per-student placement statistics. Michigan is home to the Ross School of Business, an elite institution for graduate and undergraduate studies. Michigan is arguably one of the top public schools in the nation, competing with the likes of NYU and the UCs. Similar to NYU, Michigan has an astounding Total Hires ranking of #3 on our list, but falls behind when taking into account Undergrad Placement %. Michigan only ranks in the #26 spot by Undergrad Placement % because of its large school size. They are #8 on our weighted ranking. Michigan sends the largest number of investment banking hires to Citi (14%) and Moelis & Co. (12%). This placement into Moelis is particularly high, given that Moelis is an elite boutique (and thus has a smaller class size). Michigan has extremely consistent placement into the top investment banks. Its large school size ensures that you'll find Michigan alumni wherever you go on Wall Street. Our investment banking target school list is a complete rank of 60 schools and analyzed >60k LinkedIn profiles of professionals who worked in investment banking between 2008 and 2023. - Emory University Investment Banking Placement (Using Data)
If you're interested in breaking into finance, check out our Private Equity Course and Investment Banking Course, which help thousands of candidates land top jobs every year. Emory University Emory University is a leading private research university well known and is one of the most respected educational institutions in the South. Emory students consistently place into the top investment banks and Emory earns its reputation as a semi-target on our investment banking target school list. Emory University is home to the Goizueta Business School, a well-regarded educational institution offering degree options to undergraduates and graduates. Founded in 1836, Emory is recognized for its longstanding and world-class liberal arts program. Emory University sends a reasonably high amount of investment banking hires into elite boutiques (29% of total hires). Emory's presence at the top banks is in line with other semi-target schools with a score of 53%. Emory's relatively small student population prevents it from having a sizable alumni base in finance. As such, Emory does not necessarily have a strong representation at every investment bank. A career in finance is available for the Emory students who pursue it, but the overall focus of the school is not as laser-focused on investment banking as other programs. Our investment banking target school list is a complete rank of 60 schools and analyzed >60k LinkedIn profiles of professionals who worked in investment banking between 2008 and 2023. - Brigham Young University (BYU) Investment Banking Placement (Using Data)
If you're interested in breaking into finance, check out our Private Equity Course and Investment Banking Course, which help thousands of candidates land top jobs every year. Brigham Young University Brigham Young University is a private research university located in Provo, Utah, and is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. BYU is potentially the most underrated school for investment banking placement in the entire nation. BYU places incredibly well into the top investment banking and ranks #18 on our target school list. BYU's consistent placement is anchored by a highly dedicated business student population and a near-monopoly on Salt Lake City offices (notably, Goldman Sachs' Salt Lake City office). BYU is home to the Marriott School of Business, an institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs offering many degree options for all interested students. BYU sends a large number of hires into the top investment banks, but BYU students have very little placement into the top private equity firms. Overall, BYU has a healthy pipeline of students sent to select banks each year and rightfully earns its designation as a semi-target school. Our investment banking target school list is a complete rank of 60 schools and analyzed >60k LinkedIn profiles of professionals who worked in investment banking between 2008 and 2023. - University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Investment Banking Placement
If you're interested in breaking into finance, check out our Private Equity Course and Investment Banking Course, which help thousands of candidates land top jobs every year. University of California, Los Angeles The University of California, Los Angeles is one of the top public universities in the United States and is well-regarded across many faculties. UCLA is home to the Anderson School of Management, one of the top graduate business schools in the country. Unlike other competing Californian universities, UCLA does not have an explicit undergraduate business student population. Instead, undergraduates often pursue investment banking and finance while obtaining degrees in economics, engineering, and other fields. UCLA has extremely strong placement into the top investment banks. It should come as no surprise that UCLA has particularly strong placement into west coast finance. UCLA has strong elite boutique hiring statistics, with 26% of total investment banking hires going to elite boutiques. We note that UCLA has a relatively lower elite firm %, indicating that it may be harder to get into one of the very top investment banks from UCLA. UCLA sends an incredibly strong pipeline of students to offices in LA and SF. These west coast offices tend to have smaller class sizes than NY, which could explain UCLA's relatively lower number of total hires into investment banking. Overall, UCLA places reasonably well into investment banking and earns a designation as a semi-target school. Our investment banking target school list is a complete rank of 60 schools and analyzed >60k LinkedIn profiles of professionals who worked in investment banking between 2008 and 2023. Indiana University Indiana University is a well-rounded public research university that has very solid placement into investment banking. With a consistent number of hires and strong representation at almost every top investment bank, Indiana is ranked #22 on our investment banking target school list. Located in the Midwest, Indiana is home to the Kelley School of Business, which is a well-regarded educational institution. Indiana University has remarkable presence at every top investment bank, with a "Presence" score of 71% (which ties powerhouses such as UPenn, Georgetown, and Harvard). Indiana has the highest elite boutique placement % (37%) of all schools on the target school list, anchored by its strong relationship with Moelis & Co. Indiana has a massive undergraduate business student population, exceeding 10,000 students and also making up nearly 1/3 of the school's total population. If you're interested in breaking into finance, check out our Private Equity Course and Investment Banking Course, which help thousands of candidates land top jobs every year. Southern Methodist University The Southern Methodist University is one of the most underrated U.S. schools when it comes to finance and investment banking placement. SMU is home to the Cox School of Business, a highly regarded business school that is home to several unique programs. Of note, Cox has a dedicated Alternative Asset Management Program, which is a consistent feeder into great finance and investing jobs. Like similar programs at UVA and UBC, this program involves a strict application process and heavy involvement from the school. The Alternative Asset Management program exposes students to industry speakers and practical investing classes. SMU ranks as #20 on our investment banking target school list. We observe that Cox's investment banking placement numbers are bolstered by its strong relationship with Houston offices. SMU is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is recognized for its tight-knit class sizes. SMU has an impressive "Presence" score, indicating that the school is well-represented across Wall Street. SMU also has an incredible Undergrad Placement %, with 1.19% of all SMU undergrads earning a role at a top investment bank (good enough for #15 on our list). Despite strong investment banking opportunities, we have observed that SMU does not have a good track when it comes to private equity placements. - Brown University Investment Banking Placement (Using Data)
If you're interested in breaking into finance, check out our Private Equity Course and Investment Banking Course, which help thousands of candidates land top jobs every year. Brown University Brown University is one of the oldest higher education institutions in the U.S. and is a member of the Ivy League. Brown is highly regarded for its small class sizes, academic rigor, and focus on developing critical thinking. Brown ranks #25 on our investment banking target school list. We classify Brown as a semi-target school. Similar to Princeton, Brown does not have an undergraduate business school. While Brown offers graduate business education programs, there is no dedicated business degree for undergraduates. Business students at Brown often choose a major in economics, statistics or engineering. Brown may not have the largest alumni base in finance, but its students who want to choose finance often have access to the very best firms. Brown has a very strong number of "Elite Firm Hires", with over half of their investment banking placements being at the Top 5 investment banks. Furthermore, Brown has a disproportionate amount of hires into Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, which are widely considered the top 2 investment banks. Brown's traditional pedigree and prestige is particularly obvious during buyside recruiting. Brown performs significantly better in private equity recruiting relative to many investment banking target schools. Brown's position as an Ivy league and its recognition as a top U.S. school ensures that its students will have a strong chance of breaking into finance. However, the school is held back by its relatively small size and a smaller amount of finance alumni when compared to other Ivy league schools.
